iRest® for Healing Trauma

iRest® is a transformational, evidenced based, guided meditation practice that has been created by Dr. Richard Miller, a clinical psychologist and long-time yoga and meditation practitioner.  His 10-step protocol is extremely beneficial for new meditators and advanced meditators who want to deepen their practice. A consistent practice regulates the nervous system, supports trauma release and strengthens one's ability to harness their true nature and an inner calm that can be accessed regardless of what circumstances are arising.

I became a Certified iRest® Teacher because I personally experienced how the protocol improved my sleep, decreased my anxiety, reduced my chronic pain and generally allowed me to feel more relaxed even during challenging times.  This trauma informed practice is appropriate for anyone as it allows the individual to choose their body arrangement for optimal physical and psychological comfort.  Students can practice lying down, sitting, or standing, if necessary.  Guidance is provided for individuals throughout this meditation, but participants are free to choose where to keep their attention. Strategies include, but are not limited to: guiding students through felt body sensations, imagining a place of complete safety and ease and working with opposites of beliefs, emotions and physical sensations to shape the perception of the body's experience and mental perceptions. Essentially, these practices help individuals rewire the neural circuitry in their brain in order to respond to day-to-day challenges with ease rather than reaction. Moreover, it helps one develop a stronger awareness of their body, training the nervous system to engage the relaxation response rather than the stress response for everyday strains.
